The term remote sensing refers to the observing techniques which allow to remotely obtain information related to Earth´s surface, through the use of sensors which are either mounted on satellites, or are airborne. The large number of remote sensing instruments currently in orbit daily produce a great variety of digital data – multispectral, hyperspectral and radar images – converting remote sensing into a unique and invaluable source of information for the study of natural resources, environmental conditions and land use management.
